Seattle Bound

Sunday we sadly said goodbye to Lora and Loja, but were very thankful for all the time and company we could spend with family. We hope we get to see them again soon! We fueled up, and drove the bridge across the Columbia River into Washington.

The drive to Washington was fine, with a couple of views of surrounding mountains (St. Helens, Mt. Adams, etc)
A peek at Mt. St. Helens.

Odd roadside monument. (religious?)

We arrived in Seattle just in time for dinner. This time it was Chinese in Bellview, I think, a great place (forgot the name again!) that Will and Miriam knew. We settled in and got a little bit of visiting in before calling it a night.

10/20 Monday- Another leisurely morning, another day! We didn’t shower and get out of the house till probably 11AM. Then we set out with a few small errands- find a fax machine to send a message to the Registrar of Voters for Alameda County, CA (Adam still hasn’t gotten his ballot), and poked around a hardware store looking for a rubber washer. Our inflatable bed is more than a little soggy by the time we wake up. In fact, I’m usually on the hard floor by morning, with a hell of a backache. Its been getting a little worse since we started the trip. We tried isolating the leak, but haven’t figured out where it is yet. Adam thinks it may be one of the screw-top valves, thus the looking for a washer. I’m hoping someone on this trip has a huge shower or swimming pool we can submerge the thing in to find the darn hole! Anyways, we didn’t find a washer, and ended up wandering into the downtown area of Seattle through a bunch of neighborhoods.

Downtown Seattle.

I am pretty sure we walked down the gay district (Capitol Hill, right?), which kinda looked depressing in the day at least. A lot of homeless squalor, and young college kids without a purpose. But it was the middle of a weekday, and it was fun anyways.
Seattle's Oddities.
We’ve had terrible luck finding postcards so far on the trip though. Maybe it is because we avoid tourist areas like the plague.

One of the many new buildings going up in Seattle.

We continued on to downtown, and had a nice walk in the light rain. We got to Pike’s place, and all the fishmongers seemed to be sitting around texting their girlfriends or something. We didn’t really miss the flying fish much. We were able to stand about a block of the vendors booths (very cute, lots of interesting things) but being on a budget, and the lingering hapless tourists quickly drove us away, down to the actual waterfront.

Seattle's underground freeway tunnel.

There the pea sized hail started to come down (though it was sunny a few miles north and south of us), so we hung out under an awning enjoying the spectacle.
Storm clouds over the waterfront.

After it abated, we walked out on a public pier next to the Seattle Aquarium and watched the ferries go by and other ships sail through. We hiked down the waterfront a ways, reading historical plaques and winking at the UPS guy. We stopped for a snack of Terriaki chicken at a hole in the wall, then walked back into downtown

Two for my sister.
