Family in Eugene, Driving up the Willamette

Our trip back to Eugene was surprisingly quick- We were worried we would be late because the trip east to Bend took longer than we expected, but by returning by way of a northerly route, we ended up in Eugene an hour early. We did stop long enough for lunch and saw this swan cruising upstream, and clouds over Three-fingered Jack.

Luckily Uncle Marvin didn’t mind our early arrival too much, and we could visit and referee the chicken he was cooking in the oven. Aimee arrived home from work a little tired, but looking great. She must really be taking care of herself! After a quick cleanup, she made us a absolutely delicious pesto pasta with chicken dinner, complete with all the trimmings of balsamic vinegar and olive oil dip for bread. We spent the meal catching up on each other’s lives and our travels. After dinner we played a great game of Scattergories, with Aimee and Adam coming up with some really creative answers.

Tuesday morning we met up with Aimee at this great little cafĂ© & bakery in downtown Eugene, Palace Bakery. They make good scones, ham and cheese croissants, and the coffee from next door was much appreciated by Tony. After that we were able to pick up some good organic veggies from the Tuesday Farmer’s Market in town, before jetting off to Portland.

We drove up the Willamette Valley, taking the W99 route up the west side of town. More beautiful countryside to drive through. Unfortunately a truck kicked up a rock and it dinged the windshield with about a dime sized spider crack. We stopped off at a Napa Auto parts place and got a repair kit, and repaired it as best we could over a long lunch in a McMinnville city park. We tossed the Frisbee around for about an hour while the epoxy cured.
