A cross country whaaaaa?

It all started with a dream. a cross country voyage... a journey across these united states.

Adam and I started daydreaming about a road trip way back in 2007, as we slaved on the last part of our house remodel in Oakland, CA. We needed something to dream of during those grueling 10-12 hours days, 7 days a week. We thought of visiting many friends, family and places across the country after our house sold, when we could be carefree, having the profit of the sold house to sustain us, and not be tied to a job or house to take care of. We had people from all over that had asked us to come visit over the past 4 years, while we were tied up with the house remodel and family obligations- from Seattle to Ottawa, New York to Atlanta, Madison to Austin.

When the house did not sell after the housing crunch, we kinda put the idea on the shelf, having neither the time or resources for such a trip.

We spent most of the spring and summer sifting through Tony's grandmother's estate, sorting trash from recycling, charity from family heirlooms.

Only after a generous gift from Adam's dad did we again raise the possibility of an adventurous trip.

In September, Adam threw down the gauntlet and declared that we would take off for Oregon on October 1st, to check out places that we might like to move to. We also discussed going to Adam's brother's place in South Carolina for Thanksgiving. Planning the first trip took presidence as we scrambled to tie things up in Simi before we left for Oregon. Only after we figured out how many miles we'd be driving to Oregon and South Carolina, did we come to realize it was just about the same if we did a complete 4-corners, cross-country trip, as it would to take the Oregon trip and South Carolina trip sperately. So literally days before we left we decided to try and do a 9,000+ mile 30 state tour, arriving back home in Simi/L.A. at least in time for Christmas!
