Blame Canada, Blame Canada!

11/3 Enter, Canada!

We arrived at the border crossing at Blue Lake Bridge Before we left Chicago, we returned three 1.75 Liters of Smirnoff Vodka that we got on sale for a steal because we were worried about crossing the border and heard that the gards can be kind of pissy sometimes. And we found out that we really were not supposed to take more than a liter without tax.

When we hit the border station we were more than a little apprehensive. There was no line to cross, and when we got to the agent, we showed him our passports, answered a couple questions, and were on our way in less than a minute. Shoulda kept the booze after all!

So we stopped at a local bank, of which we now know there are only 6! Pulled out some Canadian currency, and continued on our way. We had to play with buttons on Adam’s car, to see what everything looked like using the metric system. We never knew that Adam’s air conditioner also read in metric (Celsius), too. Cool Shit, egh?

The drive was uneventful; we arrived in London, ON in good time. Our host James said that the house was going to be chaotic, but the kids seemed to be on their best behavior. He barbequed some Filet Mignon steaks wrapped in bacon, while the kids helped set the table and everyone had some wine (all delicious!).

We really enjoyed the kid’s openness and candor at dinner; they were super friendly and inquisitive. Ruth thought we should talk about hot guys; Luke wanted Adam to check to see if he had “a bear in the cave”, and Micah thought we should delve more in to gender role assignments of homosexual couples. It was all in good nature and fun, which was great! We rarely get to have such discussions with openness and without pretense, which we appreciated. Made for a bombastic evening!

After the kids went off to bed, we had a great conversation with James, which continued on a short walk around London. Midnight snuck up on us quick, and we decided we better call it a night. We were too lazy to get up and see the kids off to school in the morning. It didn’t help that the basement didn’t have bright windows, which normally helps us wake up. Adam was ready to sleep for the day!

When we finally emerged from our lair, Adam planted himself on the couch, Tony got comfortable, and we proceeded to talk for another hour before we headed off for breakfast out. James took us to a great local eatery (hint, look for the light blue lighthouse) We were able to get 2 eggs, toast, home fries, 3 bacon or 3 sausage, for $4.29 CAN. (about $3.70 US) Not bad!
